GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE |
A number of community organizations and the Municipal government are collaborating on a plan to revitalize Kennedy Park. With the leadership of the Campbellford Skatepark Committee, the plan was to build a concrete skateboard park like the very popular Madoc project. This was completed in 2009. There are also plans for a new playground and a splash pad.
Project 1 - Building a Concrete Skateboard Park - Completed 2009
Street Area - 3,850 sq. ft. Bowl - 2,550 sq. ft. Watch Video tour of Skatepark Watch Video of Skatepark Grand Opening - September 26, 2009
"The park is a sculptural beauty and tons of fun. The faux stone, the gorgeous concrete sign, and the suspended hubba ledge; not to metion the gorgeous lines in the bowl and flow zone of the street area, make this a feast for the eyes...not to metion the wheels.
The street style zone combines plaza flavour with lots of flow, including a crazy roller / taco, a long flat ledge / manny, a flatbar, flatbank hip, large hubbas and rail down a 3 flat 3 double set, a step up, high bump to rail, low bump to rail, bump to upledge, beginner hubbas & rail down a bank, and medium hubbas & rail down 4, bump to ledges and more. The central landscaped area assists with drinage & facilitates a great "circle flow" at this park.
The bowl could well be Canada's most unique bowl. It's small, but just packed with unique stuff including the loveseat, the mechanical to pool style corner that blends its tranny from regular to "pool tight" through the corner, the steep bank extension, the constantly escalating deep end, and of course the big rollout hip to mini qp up on the deck. This skates like a dream and is being frequented by rippers from Tornto and Ottawa." - Jim Barnum, President, Spectrum Skatepark Creations Ltd.

In 2008 the Community Foundation provided a grant of $10,000.00 to the Municipality, from the Municipal Fund, to complete a Master plan for improvements to Kennedy Park. This plan included improvements to parking, an addition to the Rotary Youth Hall, a new skatepark, relocation of the soccer fields and landscaping. It also included an updated survey and a geotechnical report. The Municipality also received a grant of $35,000.00 from the Municipal Fund in 2008 for Skatepark Development. In 2009 The Municipality and the Community Foundation each agreed to match, up to a maximum of $75,000.00 (From the Municipal Fund and the Community Fund), all funds raised for the Skatepark. In 2010 $30,000.00 from each Fund was earmarked for the Skatepark as well.
The Campbellford Skatepark Committee received two grants from the Community Fund, one in 2006 for $7,000.00, to fund intitial start-up costs, and one in 2008, for $8,650.00, to fund the design development phase of the project.
